Environmentally Conscious Beauty Brands that Care

To be environmentally conscious can mean a lot of things.  Not using chemicals, being produced locally, paying workers a fair living wage, and charitable giving.  I want to focus on the latter and highlight some of the top beauty brands whose core values are about giving back to their community and to the environment.  These are environmentally conscious beauty brands that care.

La Mer

As you all know I am a huge fan of La Mer for their Crème, but also because of their love and commitment to our ocean. They are very much an environmentally conscious beauty brand. La Mer only uses Pacific sea kelp (their magic ingredient) that is sustainably harvested and responsibly sourced.  La Mer sees the sea as their muse and has donated millions of dollars to ocean restoration through their Blue Heart project and they continue to do so.  Remember, about 70% of all our oxygen on the planet comes from the sea.  We must take care of our oceans so the sea can take care of us.

M.A.C.

The Viva Glam collection has been around for years.  But did you know that M.A.C. actually underwrites the cost of producing these lipsticks and lip glosses so 100% of the purchase price goes to a variety of HIV and AIDS initiatives?  They include feeding, housing, protecting and educating the 36.7 million people who are living with AIDS/HIV worldwide.  1.8 million of these people are children.

Chantecaille

This French line has amazing scents, colors and pallets and many of them benefit animals directly through purchase.  Take for instance their new limited edition Lion collection that supports the Lion Guardians.  This group works directly with the Maasai culture to transform their old tradition of lion hunting into lion conservation. Talk about an environmentally conscious beauty brands that cares!  Another collection focuses on saving our majestic wolves, whose lives are continually under threat from ranchers and hunters.  Other collections include bees, coral, sharks and butterflies.

Soap & Water

These great body washes, bar soaps and lotions are made with essential oils and low impact packaging (like the cool bamboo tops) and all proceeds go to support the clean water initiatives of EarthEcho International, my hubby’s NGO.  EEI works with young people around the world to give them the tools to solve our environmental challenges starting in their own communities.

Thrive Causemetics

This line of faux lashes and chemical free adhesives takes the “one for one” approach.  Founded by Karissa Bodnar, she developed the line for women who were losing their natural eye lashes due to cancer treatments.  With each product purchased, Thrive Causemetics donates one to a woman going through chemotherapy.
