Hot Spots at Art Basel Miami

One of my absolute favorite spots in Miami was The Wynwood Walls! If you haven’t had the chance to visit, it is a must-see hot spot that is covered in life-sized murals, graffiti and street art. I have never seen anything quite like it!

Although this area of Miami is constantly filled with a rotating mixture of artists and their incredible creations, Art Basel is the time in which The Wynwood Walls are taken to another level and becomes more captivating than ever. I could have spent all day walking through this colorful neighborhood, admiring the artists hard at work, creating various forms of visually stunning pieces.

While walking through the area, you are bound to spot a graffiti artist either crouched down painting the sidewalks, balancing on a ladder putting their final touches on any Wynwood canvas building or my personal favorite… an artist covering an entire wall with the words “I am love” with a simple silver sharpie.

Another nearby hotspot and one of my personal favorites was Art Miami located in Midtown nearby the Design District. This is the leading modern and contemporary international art fair! It is one of the main attractions during Art Basel as it lures in more than 82,000 collectors, curators and art enthusiasts. All of the artwork is located inside tents that are set up specifically for Art Basel. There was one piece of artwork that stood out…a large sculpture of a heart made out of flop flips. It seems so simple yet amazing to look at in person. Art Basel is something I highly recommend experiencing as it makes you truly appreciate the many forms of artwork.

While Art Basel is undeniably the main event in Miami, designers and magazines throw some of the most luxurious and chic parties. From rooftops to “pop up” soirees, Art Basel is the place to be if you are a lover of both art and nightlife. One of my favorite events took place on the beach outside of the luxurious Faena Hotel. Juan Gatti’s geodesic dome was the place to be during Art Basel as it lit up the beach nightly with special events, talks, art installations and even a performance by Kendrick Lamar.  Nothing is off limits when it comes to Art Basel Miami!

Although Art Basel is officially checked off my bucket list, I am already planning my trip to attend next year’s events. As the famous artist Louise Nevelson once said, “Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind”. I couldn’t agree more! Art Basel has opened my eyes to a whole new world where I know appreciate the value of art more than ever before.

Be sure to see Kristen’s first post on Art Basel with some additional highlights here.
