In the world of fine dining, black truffles are a delicacy worth a hefty price. If you haven’t been lucky enough to try black truffles before, you are in for a treat. The aroma of this delicacy is earthy and heady, and it will reach you far before you even take a bite. Truffles are seasonal, in limited supply, and perishable, the combination of which makes them cost a pretty penny. Luckily their flavor is so distinct that it doesn’t take a lot to enhance a dish. If you’re ready to indulge in a meal with black truffles, these are our favorite places in the world to enjoy this delicacy.

Foodies in wine country know that La Toque’s annual Black Truffle menu is a must try. This Michelin starred restaurant offers an exclusive meal with black truffles every January for the past 37 years. At La Toque, they pride themselves on educating their guests on truffle use and avoiding low-quality imitations.
We only use truffles from sources we know well and have used for years. We feature three species of fresh Truffles; Tuber magnatum pico, the true white truffle, Tuber melanosporum, the true winter black truffle and occasionally Tuber uncinatum, often referred to as the Summer or Burgundy truffle. Other species just don’t compare, and they’re not worth the money. We do not use truffles native to China or Oregon, although we look forward to the success of American truffle plantations in the next few years. The truffles from the Himalayas are technically truffles, but their flavor pales in comparison to the real thing. Sadly, many people don’t know the difference and are either easily fooled, or worse, mix them in with real truffles to cut costs.
This year, they are pleased to offer a summer truffle menu in June utilizing fresh Australian-grown black truffles.
