The Best Cars at Concours d’Elegance of America

With a history dating back to 17th century France, Concours d’Elegance showcases what can only be considered timeless classics and some of the finest automobiles ever created. These collectors’ car shows take place all over the country – there are more than 50 Concours events – but the main event, Concours d’Elegance of America takes place in Plymouth, Michigan, at The Inn at St. John’s. What sets a Concours event apart from other car shows is the quality of the cars. Some of our all-time favorite cars from Concours d’Elegance of America span their categories. From motorcycles to the performance classes and from the pre- and post-war classes to the featured body styles, each has its own appeal, we’ve put together a short list of the style we look forward to at these events.

One of only 337 built, there are only 122 that are known to still exist. Our love of this car should be obvious. With its strong, sleek body, and roomy interior, the 300G may always be America’s Grand Touring Automobile. Imagine a road trip in this beauty, top down, seeing the sites of the country, sounds like a great tour.

1990 Lancia Delta Integrale

Our appreciation for the Lancia Delta Integrale may not be as apparent with its boxy, compact appearance.  This Italian make has more than meets the eye. The Martini Lancia Rally Team used this model to build their Group A rally cars in which they competed in the World Rally Championship. The car was used for six years and helped score 46 victories. So, the car may not be as impressive visually as some of the others you’ll encounter at Concours d’Elegance, however, it is not to be missed.

In the category of cars you may not expect to find on a list like this, the 1967 International Travelall from International Harvester is one we couldn’t leave out. It may be the nostalgia for the time when these were on the road everywhere.  The pre-SUV style of this vehicle is perfect for piling the family or a group of friends in and hitting the open road.

More on the sexy side of things, the 1985 Rover 2500S from British Leyland is known for being powerful with its V8 engine. These cars were popular with British police forces and, as a result, have a reputation for being strong and powerful. We like all that, but find the Rover 2500S to be a sleek, smooth, and sexy ride. Date night, anyone?

This car is the epitome of class and style.   All that you think of when you hear someone say that a car is a ‘timeless classic’, the Lasalle Convertible Coupe is parade-worthy. Only 874 of these beauties were produced in 1935. This is one of those vehicles you’ll want to dress up to drive.

The main event for the annual car shows, Concours d’Elegance of America, is a fun day of appreciating some of the finest classic automobiles. However, there are more events all around the country. So many in fact, that a website has been created to keep track of them all, visit ConcoursDates.com to find the one nearest you.
