5 Hamptons-Inspired Outdoor Dining Ideas

The Hamptons, located in Suffolk County, New York, comprises a groups of villages and hamlets that are a very popular seaside resort and retreat. The varied communities are home to farmers, fishermen, artists, politicians, and people from all walks of life.  The landscape and lifestyle draw many to the area.

The ever popular locale has even inspired a design style:  Hampton Inspired.  Hampton style design features minimal color use. White walls and also floorboards are very popular.  Creams and natural tones are used often in the wide open spaces that are part of Hamptons style.  Flowing indoor-outdoor spaces are crucial.  While the style is elegant, it is also comfortable.  Lounges and accent chairs make spaces inviting and give them a cozy feel.  Finally, natural light and green spaces are a key component of Hampton style living.  As part of this, outdoor dining spaces are an integral part of Hampton inspired design.  Let us venture outside and take a look at several outstanding Hamptons inspired outdoor dining ideas.

Jennifer Ash Rudick, a long-time Southampton resident, recently published a photo book called Out East:  Houses and Gardens of the Hamptons. In this book she shares images from over 25 homes in the Hamptons. These beautiful homes are reflective of their owner’s personal styles but still retain that Hampton design aesthetic. Here are some of our favorite outdoor dining spaces from Jennifer Ash Rudick’s book.

Traditionally Eclectic

Peter Hallock designed his Hamptons home himself. “I didn’t want the house to look decorated.” he explains. “I just don’t like walking into someone’s house and knowing right away who the decorator is, and I prefer a ‘traditionally eclectic,’ personal style. When it comes to decor, if an object or a piece of furniture really appeals to you, then somehow it will work in the overall scheme.” This style is evident in his patio choices, from the 1940s era chairs to the eye catching and ornate red tablecloths, which he found in a Paris flea market.

Louise Grunwald’s Southampton home is one with a style that is elegant but not stuffy.  Simply charming is how many might describe this cozy beachside escape.  A petite dining table setting, mostly white with earthy green accents, is a perfect spot for a bite to eat before following the path to the beach.

Are you as charmed with the Hamptons as we are?  It is easy to see why so many people find themselves drawn to this area. For more information about this lovely getaway locale, read our tips on how to head to the Hamptons in style.
