October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month for more than 30 years. This cause is recognized both in the United States and around the world, with many opting to go pink to raise awareness of the issue. Thankfully, death rates from breast cancer have decreased due to heightened awareness and improved screening options, but there is still much work to do to increase survival rates. You can help by participating in the DrinkPink Initiative this month.
Many businesses and organizations have generously created pink-themed products or events to raise funds to support initiatives that address breast cancer. Some funds raised go towards research. Others donate proceeds to help provide mammograms and diagnostic services to women who cannot afford basic healthcare. Early detection is key to combatting breast cancer, and this month is a great time to raise both awareness and funds for this critical health issue. The DrinkPink Initiative is a fun and creative way for many people to contribute to the cause. If you live in the Los Angeles area, or if you plan to visit this wonderful city in October, here are the best places in LA to imbibe and support the DrinkPink Initiative.
REV Winery & Brewing Company
Head 20 miles west from Los Angeles to find this gem of a brewery. The speakeasy-style tasting room will take you back to the days of prohibition, while the production is decidedly modern. This organic winery and brewery is in San Gabriel Valley, a short 30-minute drive from Los Angeles. REV Winery & Brewing Company is donating $1 to Keep A Breast for every Lord Vadyr glass sold during the entire month of October. This dark, delicious beer is a black IPA coming in at 8.6%. The brewery will also be giving away pink-themed breast cancer awareness stickers and other goodies all month long. What a great way to get your brew on while supporting a worthy cause!
Eagle Rock Brewery
This Northeast Los Angeles Brewery was established in 2009. The brewery hosts a monthly Women’s Beer Forum and October is dedicated to fundraising for breast cancer awareness. Ting Su, the brewery’s co-founder, says the monthly events bring dozens of craft beer-loving women together to sample a themed flight of four beers and have “an open discussion about the characteristics, style, and background of each of the beers.” Past events have seen as many as seven pink tinted beers sampled, with funds going towards organizations like Keep a Breast.
Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills
The Pink Ribbon is the featured pink drink of the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles. This delightful beverage has a refreshingly unexpected hibiscus infusion which gives this cocktail a memorable appeal. Every October you can enjoy pink specialty cocktails, themed cuisine, and culinary treats in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Visit Windows Lounge all month to take advantage of these specialty items. As part of the DrinkPink Initiative, twenty percent of the pink-themed treats proceeds go directly to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. In addition to the Pink Ribbon, other cocktails are La Vie En Rose and Booby Trap. Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial in a limited edition pink bottle is also available by the glass.
