Top Five Chinese Restaurants in Los Angeles

Chinese Restaurants are plentiful in Los Angeles but choosing one that is great can be difficult. The most prevalent are those you’ll find in strip malls all throughout the southland, and some of those are in our top five, as are some on the higher end. The list covers everything from the best in the quick meal to the best in the sit-down setting.

Yang Chow

An institution in Los Angeles’ Chinatown, Yang Chow rose to fame after an article in the Los Angeles Times published a story about them which included a recipe for their signature dish, Slippery Shrimp.

The very first Yang Chow opened its doors in 1977, in the heart of Chinatown. Located beneath the Bing Wong Hotel, it was a former diner that was converted into a two-room eatery. Started by a family of five brothers who named the restaurant after their hometown.

Its reputation as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles is well-earned.

Wok on Soto

One of the most unassuming restaurants on our list, but also one of the best in the city. The specialty at Wok on Soto is takeout though they have a few tables for dining in.

Our Chinese restaurant is known for its modern interpretation of classic dishes and its insistence on only using high-quality fresh ingredients.

Their wealth of stellar reviews makes perfect sense when you try their food. One of the best and our personal favorite is their honey walnut shrimp (as pictured). It’s sweet, savory, and simply a delight

Bao Dim Sum House

Bao brings authentic Hong Kong-style dim sum to the west-side in a chic but old-world atmosphere that’s perfect for family dining and dates. Great food comes from great people and our expert handpicked Chinese chefs are masters of the culinary arts. Their experience can be tasted with every bite you take.

This description they’ve crafted sums up their approach to food very well. Their weekday happy hour is a great spot for a light bite with friends or a cocktail before enjoying a full dinner at Bao.

Mr. Chow

Dating back to 1968 London, Mr. Chow caters to “generations of devoted clients from art, fashion, music, and entertainment.”

Art, celebrity and superb cuisine all blend together in this stylish restaurant in the heart of Beverly Hills. It has always been an institution for Hollywood’s biggest stars and its loyal clients.

When you couple its decor with its food which is art in itself, Mr. Chow’s long-standing reputation, from the original in London to any of its seven other locations, stands firm.

Chin Chin

Chin Chin made its debut in Los Angeles in 1983, introducing dim sum and other Chinese favorites prepared fresh to order, without adding any MSG, and served in a contemporary environment with friendly and efficient service.

Since the early 1980s, Chin Chin has become more and more popular and rightfully so. They’ve revolutionized the American Chinese food experience as their menu selections are based on traditional recipes from throughout China. From their famous Chinese Chicken Salad to their Orange Chicken and Dim Sum and Them Sum, the quality is most obvious, as is the fact that their food is full of flavor and as fresh as it can be.

Where will you start on this list of our top five favorite Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles? Will you opt for fast and easy or make an evening of it with something more upscale? For something a little more interesting, you’ll want to try these unique concept restaurants in Los Angeles.
