Patek Philippe spent five years in the research and development phase alone. Watchmakers later took four years to physically manufacture the piece, which required meticulous assembly of 1,728 parts and 24 different complications. One of the four pieces created sold for $24 million at a Sotheby’s auction in 2014. At one million dollars per complication, this small wonder set a new standard in the art of timekeeping.
