For over 130 years, Bulova has been producing high end, desirable timepieces. A leader in the industry, the Bulova name has become synonymous with quality and luxury. That is why antique Bulova watches are in demand along with modern models. So here are some of the most prized Bulova watch models. One of these also ranks as the most expensive Bulova watch sold to date.
The most well known of all Bulova watches, the Lone Eagle models debuted first in 1927. The timepiece commemorates Charles Lindbergh’s first transatlantic flight. Legend has it that Bulova sold 5,000 Lone Eagle watches within three days of Lindbergh’s successful flight. Whether that legend is true or not, early Lone Eagle watches are prized pieces in many luxury watch collections.
Around 1950, Bulova entered into an exclusive contract with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the rights to use the words “Academy Award” and “Oscar” in their products. Soon after Bulova began producing the popular Academy Award model watches. Nearly 40 different models debuted over the years, and they are now a favorite with collectors. The Bulova Academy Award watches were produced until approximately 1954. The hard to find watches are also in high demand with Bulova fans, as this is a design that will likely never be replicated again by the luxury watchmaker.
Bulova continues to produce high quality and also collectible watches. In early 2015, they released the Joseph Bulova Collection First Edition 24-Karat Gold Watch. Only 32 of these gorgeous timepieces exist and – with a suggested retail value of $42,000 – they remain the most expensive Bulova watch ever produced. Each timepiece is in a unique capsule form that is both attractive and highly functional. The Bureau Central du Contrôle des Métaux Précieux has certified the fineness and purity of the gold cases.
