Eco-Friendly Homes with Luxury Style

Today’s luxury homes are often a environmentally-conscious combination of amenities and sustainability.  These three homes are prime examples of how well eco-friendly design can mesh with the creature comforts expected in a luxury home.

San Francisco Guitar House

Described as one of the largest ecologically correct homes in America, famously eco-friendly architectural firm Sim Van der Ryn designed the unique Guitar House.  In addition to other ecologically friendly design, the home’s construction used only reclaimed or certified sustainable harvest wood, including wood from the original house on the site.

12,000 Square Foot Florida Home

This Tahitian-inspired home proves that eco-friendly doesn’t not have to mean small!  This seven bedroom residence in Florida has been certified by both the Florida Green Building Council and the Energy Star for Homes programs.  The committees liked the home’s rainwater collection system, air purification systems, and solar panels.  It is astounding that there are days when this home is even energy-neutral!

Underground Mansion in England

Some homeowners are fully invested in creating an eco-friendly luxury home.  Perdu in Manchester is a stunning example of the steps you can take to reduce your impact on the environment.  This circular three-bedroom home was built completely underground.  The home has a transparent dome which sits in the center of the building that allows sunlight to enter, in lieu of traditional windows.  This eco-friendly home uses of rainwater harvesting as well as solar tubes to warm the home’s hot water.  That hot water then goes to fill the underground swimming pool, complete with a waterslide.
