Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are the top selling cars in the current American market. Luxury auto makers are doing their best to establish themselves in this highly sought after category. Here are ten luxury SUVs to look out for in 2019.
Acura has redesigned the RDX from the top down for the 2019 edition. A new chassis with a longer wheelbase is one improvement. The cabin has been updated as well to feature a larger infotainment system.
The Q8 is Audi’s newest addition to their growing SUV lineup. The new Q8 will be Audi’s flagship model. This luxury SUV will feature a 48-volt mild-hybrid system as standard equipment. Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system will also be standard in the Q8.
BMW has advertised the X4 as a “sports activity coupe”. This small luxury SUV has standard all wheel drive, ample ground clearance, four doors and a hatchback opening. The X4 will be available in two models, the 2019 X4 xDrive30i and the 2019 X4 M40i.
The x5 is a “sports activity vehicle” according to BMW. The X5 is taller, longer, and wider than the previous model. The 2019 X5 will be available in either X5 xDrive 40i or X5 xDrive 50i model series. The 2019 X5 models will all use an 8 speed automatic transmission with an updated version of BMWs all wheel drive system.
A lot of innovation and new technology went into the making of the 2019 Infinity QX50. Pure, Luxe, and Essential are the three trim levels available for the 2019 models. The new VC-Turbo engine generates 268 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque.
The XT4 is the smallest luxury SUV in Cadillac’s line. Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sports are the trim levels available to buyers in 2019. Unique LED lighting elements are part of the design that Cadillac hopes will appeal to younger consumers with a budget for luxury cars. Cadillac User Experience (CUE), the auto brand’s infotainment system, has been updated for 2019.
“UX” is an abbreviation for urban explorer. This subcompact crossover luxury SUV has a gas-powered UX 200 model and a UX 250h gas-electric hybrid. Both use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Standard safety technology systems include forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and forward automatic emergency braking.
The Mercedes Benz G-Class SUV has been in production since the late 1970s, and the 2019 model is the first redesign for this iconic vehicle in 40 years. While the classic look of the vehicle remains the same, the G-class has been highly modernized for 2019. The G550 and the Mercedes-AMG G63 are the two new G-class models coming out. The G550 model powertrain is a turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 engine with an output of 416 hp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 instead has a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 which turns out 577 hp and 627 lb.-ft. of torque.
The completely redesigned Cayenne is longer, lighter, and wider than the 2018 model. A 12.3-inch infotainment screen with voice controls is part of the improved infotainment system, which also features high-definition displays with driving information. The Cayenne, Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo, and Cayenne E-Hybrid are all the models available in 2019.
This compact luxury crossover utility vehicle from Volvo is its third SUV model for 2019. Two models of the XC40 will be available, and both use a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. The standard safety systems on both models include road-departure prevention, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and cross-traffic alert.
