A Look at the New Range Rover Velar

Land Rover began as a sketch on a Welsh beach in 1947 and they’ve evolved into a leading manufacturer of unique, terrain trekking vehicles. There’s a level of quality they define as the marriage of capability and composure, which distinguishes every vehicle bearing the Land Rover badge. The new Range Rover Velar is no exception. Introduced in 2017, the new mid-size crossover was an immediate hit, and the 2018 model will find an audience that is sure to maintain that same level of enthusiasm for the Velar.

Land Rover says that the Range Rover Velar is their most refined and capable vehicle yet and it delivers a poised, confident, and refined drive integrated with innovative technologies. Built on the same platform as the Jaguar F-Pace, the new model is the latest in the Range Rover line to receive the new turbocharged 2.0-liter engine from the Ingenium family.

Design

Fitting firmly between the smaller Evoque and the larger Range Rover Sport, the Velar maintains a simple, strong design both inside and out. On the exterior, the signature floating Range Rover roof caps off the continuous waistline of the body nicely. The interior, is a sanctuary of calm, even with its sports command driving position and a range of other details that provide the refined driving experience you’ve come to expect when sitting in a Range Rover. Those details include a head-up display, dual touchscreen, sliding armrests, and configurable mood lighting.

Technology

Dubbed their Infotainment features, the Velar uses the most current technology available to make driving simple, convenient, and extremely functional. Starting with the dual touchscreens, these Touch Pro Duo screens allow the user to access multiple functions at once.  You are able to use the system more efficiently while offering the best connectivity including a wifi hotspot. The subtle hidden-until-lit buttons on the steering wheel put more control at the fingertips of the driver while also reducing distraction. The interactive driver display keeps only the most pertinent information directed at the driver, again reducing distraction.

There is also built-in rear seat entertainment that will keep the back seat passengers entertained.  They are able to connect via USB or HDMI with their smartphones, tablets or other devices and it also includes headphones and a wireless remote. An app called Incontrol Remote will put the controls of this infotainment system on your smartphone, tablet, or other device including the Apple Watch.

Performance

Velar’s 8-speed finely-tuned, automatic transmission offers smooth shifting and a rapid response. Beyond the engine, with the added optional air-suspension, the Velar can handle challenging terrains with its off-road capability. One of the more versatile models in its class, the automatic access height will raise or lower the vehicle by 1.6 inches for ease of getting in and getting out.

Comfort & Safety

Featuring premium textiles including leather, wool blend, and suede cloth, the comfort level of the Velar is second to none.  You will also get climate controlled seats, not only in the front but in the rear as well. In addition to comfort, the Velar has a full range of safety features including latch points in the rear seats for child seats.  You will also enjoy six driver and passenger airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, sports command driving position, electronic traction control, and emergency brake assist.

Versatility

Finally there is a bonus feature that is perfect for the active driver. The activity key is a wristband that eliminates the need to carry a key fob with you.  Enjoy a wide range of activities such as hiking, cycling and more without the need for bulky keys.
