Four Restaurants That are Rethinking Classic Brunch

Brunch has become the cornerstone of the perfect weekend, but sometimes brunch offerings can become stale and leave little to the imagination. Fear not! We’ve found four amazing restaurants across the country that are rethinking the classic brunch and will reinvigorate your love of brunch (classic or not).

Egg Shop

Married couple Sarah Schneider and Demitri Makoulis have married their love and shared appreciation for the egg sandwich and their love of playful minimalism. They created Egg Shop along with Chef Nick Korbee.

Inspired by the incredible versatility of the egg, the team went on to develop infinite egg-centric dishes that are both familiar and nuanced. Today, Korbee executes a seasonal menu of organic, locally sourced dishes.

With two locations in New York, your love of Egg Shop doesn’t have to stop there, they’ve published a cookbook which they say “comically and thoroughly guides readers through all egg-cooking techniques and provides recipes for more than 100 inventive egg-centric dishes.”

HalfSmoke

Not only does HalfSmoke offer an all-day brunch menu, they also offer free bottomless mimosas when you purchase any signature entree. There’s a catch, though, you only have one hour to test your mimosa limit. With a casual vibe, you’ll feel like you’re hanging out with friends at their chic modern and funky house and the food ranges from classic cereal combinations of your choosing to buttermilk fried chicken strips with red velvet funnel cake. If you’re not in the mood for a mimosa, opt for The Breakfast of Shaw, their signature Bloody Mary made with Tito’s vodka and topped with tater tots, french fries, macaroni and cheese bites, corn dogs, sliders, and grilled chicken wings with celery!

Honey Salt Food & Drink

A little more chic than shabby, this Las Vegas spot offers both the traditional brunch items some in your party may need with several innovative items that prove they’re rethinking the classics. Pair the Autumn Harvest Toast (delicata squash, bellwether ricotta, pepitas, and pomegranate seeds) with the Green Goddess Juice (salad in a glass: kale, apples, fennel, cucumber, celery, lemon, and ginger). Founders Elizabeth Blau and Kim Canteenwalla say that they are “inspired by the countless meals we have shared in our own home with friends over the years, Honey Salt is a restaurant devoted to family, friends and community.” They also note that they “offer a farm-to-table inspired menu that balances the reality of living in the desert with the amazing ingredients regionally available for those willing to look a little harder.”

Post & Beam

True California cuisine with some nods to the south with their expert soul food, Post & Beam is a hip hot spot in Los Angeles’ Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza neighborhood. Modern comfort food is very on-trend right now, but Post & Beam has staying power as they are an oasis in an area of the city that doesn’t have a lot of food offerings.

With an open kitchen, a spacious, warm-hued main dining room, and a verdant garden patio, Post & Beam is designed to make you feel at home. We frequently feature live music on the patio, and the soundtrack, curated in house, is always pitch-perfect.

Be sure to make reservations for brunch (or any weekend dining, really).
