Sailing in Style: The New Lexus Sport Yacht

Lexus isn’t just a brand, it’s a lifestyle and Lexus strives to provide accessible luxury to a clientele who appreciates the finer things in life. To that end, they recently introduced the Lexus Sport Yacht in Miami. While it’s strictly a concept vessel at this point, the reception so far may end up making it a reality for consumers.

Design

The 42-foot concept yacht is one of the sleekest sport yachts you’ll find. In an interview with the Robb Report, Lexus Head of Design Yoshira Yoshihiro Sawa notes that “The lines of the boat are never interrupted, they just flow from one end to the other.” He’s referring, of course, to the large front of the boat and the manner in which the sleek exterior lines are from stern to bow with no walkways or sharp edges of any kind. Those familiar with the Lexus brand will recognize that the company’s LFA supercar served as the inspiration for the yacht. In a word, the Lexus super yacht is sexy.

Substance

This craft is more than sexy, it has substance in the form of performance and a few bells and whistles to make an outing on it more fun than you’d imagine. From the Italian upholstery, paneling, and cabinetry, to the hand-painted glass details and skylight, comfort is part of the substance of this craft. Inside, though, is where the real magic happens.  It uses twin V-8 gasoline-powered engines pushing a total of 950 horsepower to move at up to 49 miles per hour. Kick in the turbo-boost and you’ll get another 1,000 rpms giving you a nice bump up in speed – with engines based on those found in the LC500 Coupe. The yacht is also made of a plastic with carbon-fiber keeping it strong with the weight being as light as possible. At the helm, a touchscreen allows your captain control of not only navigation but also the entertainment for his or her guests.

Style

Beyond the substance of this vessel, is the style. While it may seem that Lexus placed style over substance, that is simply not the case. Without walkways, a deckhand would have trouble assisting the captain with anchoring and mooring. However, you’ll notice a hatch on the foredeck that provides access for such activity. They’ve made every effort to keep style at the forefront of this vessel’s image.  You can see this effort down to the wave-inspired guest seats lining the cockpit.  These allow guests to congregate and enjoy the open air with the captain.
